Aromatic notes: wine brandy, dried fruits and candied citrus fruits.
General style: A supple and easy attack that gives way to a nice, powerful and long sherry on the finish.
Port Charlotte is a former whiskey distillery located on the Isle of Islay on the west coast of Scotland that was originally scheduled to open in 2009 but was postponed to an unknown date due to the global financial crisis. Founded by the neighbouring Bruichladdich distillery, it was established in Port Charlotte in the buildings of the former Lochindaal distillery closed in 1929.
Its equipment comes from the old Inverleven distillery in Dumbarton which was demolished in 2003.
Port Charlotte brand whiskeys are distilled at the Bruichladdich distillery.
Famous single malt from the Isle of Islay, this Port Charlotte official version spent 8 years in sherry casks before being bottled at its natural strength.
Tasting Notes:
Colour ? Chartreuse sunshine.
Nose ? An updraft of sea spray and peat smoke greets you with spicy pepper and lemon aromas all exploding simultaneously. Spindrift on canvas sails with a tailwind of heather and myrtle. Then the sweetness of oak and malted barley burst through bringing calm for a while before you are swept onto the next wave.
Palate ? Viscous, rich and oily. Peat fire flavours and the mellow rich taste of sweet, oaky Demerara sugar toddy. Waves of Islay wash over the palate. An original Islay darm, unlike any other.
Finish ? Dreams come true and desires fulfilled! This prodigy of Islay?s west coast clearly shows that coastal maturation is THE key element as waves of marine notes add the vital spark to the oak sweetness of the spirit.
When the Bruichladdich distillery reopened in 2001, the new owners at the time decided to develop, in addition to the eponymous whiskey, two other much more peaty single malts: Octomore and Port Charlotte. Alternately, peaty, smoky, saline and iodized, this version which takes us back 14 years, pays a vibrant tribute to the men who gave it birth and who have allowed it to acquire over time an enormous amount of complexity. retaining the naturalness that befits the best Islay.
Single Cask # R091600007 - Sherry Limited edition of 420 bottles for France Profile: spicy (clove), camphor, smoky (ash) and liquorice. Air. Peat and smoke play on a par with fresh-cut grass and candied fruit.
TASTING NOTE
Colour: deep golden yellow.
Nose: firm, lively. Particularly rooty peat close to malted barley takes hold of the first nose. Then, it gradually becomes spicy (cloves), camphoric, smoky (ash) and liquorice. Slender, it mellows with notes of vanilla, coconut and lemon. We also perceive dark chocolate and white fruits (apple, pear).
Palate: fine, airy. On the attack, peat and smoke play on equal terms with fresh-cut grass and candied fruits. On the mid-palate, ginger and liquorice stick provides a fibrous and somewhat tannic interlude. When aired, it evokes with limpidity notes of bitumen on which grow heady white flowers (lily, iris, lily of the valley).
Overall: long, elegant. This time, the course is set towards more marine and more saline tones. Thus, iodine, fleur de sel and seaweed inexorably take possession of the palate. It continues with notes of tobacco and spices (pepper, ginger). The retro olfaction is vanilla and the empty glass dazzles with peaty, fruity and spicy luminosity.

The 2018 release of single malt from the new Eden Mill distillery in St Andrews, on Scotland's east coast.
A really impressive early release, this has been matured in a mixture of oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and bourbon casks. Bottled at 46.5%, there are 3,200 in the run.
This is the second release of whisky from the distillery, outside of a 200ml series of 'hip flasks'.
Scottish Whisky, also known as Scotch, is a revered and celebrated spirit worldwide, renowned for its rich heritage, diverse styles, and complex flavour profiles. Scotland's whisky production is steeped in tradition, with each bottle reflecting centuries of craftsmanship and the unique character of its region.
Scotch whisky comes in several distinct types, each offering a different taste experience:
1. Single Malt Scotch: Made from malted barley at a single distillery, single malts are often considered the epitome of Scotch whisky. They are celebrated for their depth and complexity, with flavours varying widely depending on the region of production.
2. Single-Grain Scotch: Though less common, single-grain Scotch is made at a single distillery but can include other grains in addition to malted barley. It tends to be lighter and milder in flavour compared to single malts.
3. Blended Scotch: A mix of malt and grain whiskies from different distilleries, blended Scotch is known for its consistency and balance. It's a popular choice for those new to Scotch whisky, offering a smoother and more approachable profile.
4. Blended Malt Scotch: This type combines single malts from two or more distilleries, offering a complex and nuanced flavour.
5. Blended Grain Scotch: A blend of single-grain whiskies from different distilleries, it's known for its light and delicate character.
The production of Scotch whisky is governed by strict laws to ensure its quality and authenticity. It must be distilled and aged in Scotland, with aging taking place in oak barrels for a minimum of three years.
Each region in Scotland contributes its unique characteristics to the whisky. For instance, Speyside whiskies are known for their elegance and complexity, Islay for their smoky and peaty notes, and Highland whiskies for their diverse and robust profiles.
